When Was the Last You Took Your Body to The Garage?

We take our car to the garage for servicing every year. We clean our home at least once every year. We are conscious of the preventive maintenance of our car and particular about keeping the house clean.

The irony of life is we ignore our body and never thought to take our body to a garage for annual upkeep and maintenance. We do it only when it breaks down.

Our car, our home are important to us than our body. This shows our priority in life. This also shows why we suffer from a diseased body.

Many people do annual health check-up and that’s it. But most even don’t care to do it. We wait till our report show some abnormalities and then we get into action. Even then our actions are half-hearted. We rely on medicines as an easier option to cure rather than what is possible with a more sustainable approach of the right diet and exercise.

We have no clue that our body where we live till death, which is a major source of our pain in a diseased condition deserve annual maintenance.

We go for an annual vacation, but our body is not getting rest and cleansing, only our mind remains away from then work. (that too is impossible in times of Mobile phones). Our body gets all kinds of outside food when we are on a vacation. Whatever little discipline we observe in the home is given a burial. Of course, vacations are not for discipline.

We will be celebrating 150the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in a few days. He was known for his trust for naturopathy. What he wrote in Hind Swaraj once is very vital for all of us to understand:

“The business of a doctor is to take care of the body, or, properly speaking, not even that. Their business is really to rid the body of diseases that may afflict it. How do these diseases arise? Surely by our negligence or indulgence. I have indulged in a vice, I contract a disease, a doctor cures me, the odds are that I shall repeat the vice.

Had the doctor not intervened, Nature would have done its work, and I would have acquired mastery over myself, would have been freed from vice and would have become happy… A continuance of a course of medicine must, therefore, result in loss of control over the mind.”

Easy availability of medicines keeps us sick and diseased often. When we have an easy and quick solution, we would not go for the tough but sustainable measure. The easy solution is not sustainable and makes us suffer from chronic diseases.

“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore, the physician must come from nature, with an open mind.” Paracelsus

Gandhiji wrote,” Nature cure means a change for the better in one’s outlook on life itself. It means regulation of one’s life in accordance with the laws of health. It is not a matter of taking free medicine from the hospital or for fees.

The man who accepts nature cure never begs. Self-help enhances self-respect. He takes steps to cure himself by eliminating poisons from the system and takes precautions against falling ill in the future…”

With the naturopathy ways, we can cleanse our body the natural way. Naturopathy way includes fasting, light eating, right earing, Ayurveda, Panchkarma, mud therapies, asana, pranayama, Yogic cleansing kriyas, and massages.

If you are particular about preventive maintenance of your car, is it not sensible to take your body also to a naturopathic center for preventive maintenance periodically? I am sure there is no debate about the importance between the two — Car and Body.

Naturopathy centers are garages for our body. By living away from nature we spoil our body, take unbearable work from it, year after year nonstop, stuffed it with unhealthy but the food our tongue likes. We are causing hara-kiri on our body with our responsible lifestyle and yet annual maintenance of the body is not on our agenda for years altogether.

One day it will react with cardiac arrest, cancer, chronic diseases, or organ failure. Till that time, we will not stop, act or do anything to keep it healthy. The irony is we see others suffering from such disease but think we are immune to the diseases despite our unnatural lifestyle. This is the level of our recklessness.

“All the money the world can’t buy you back good health.” Reba McEntire

& yet we are bold not to care about the health running after money and splurging on thing money can buy but spoil our health. We do exactly opposite to what Swami Vivekanand said in the quote below.

“You must keep a strict eye on your health; let everything else be subordinated to that.” Swami Vivekananda

For us, health is subordinated to everything else in life. Pause, think and act. Make a commitment to your body to give it rest and indulge in the naturopathic way of living at least once a year.

“Those who do not find time every day for health must sacrifice a lot of time one day for illness.” Father Sebastian Kneipp

We are lucky to have several naturopathy institutes in India. Commit to having next vacation at one of the institutes for annual cleansing of your body. (Disclaimer: We are not connected with any of the naturopathy Instutures.)

Do not take your car to the garage or clean the house during Diwali before you cleanse your body for a few days. (Fancy SPAs available in the cities are for the fun, not the substitute for the life in the Naturopathy Centers.)

This could be your solid response to Govt’s Fit India Movement.
